Prostate Cancer Update

Well I did get my results from the MRI back and I would say it has to be positive.

They could not see any actual cancerous areas.

So that means that the cancer identified in my previous biopsy must be very small (or hiding very well…lol)

Which is a very good sign, as it definitely could have went significantly the other way with definitely cancerous lesions showing up in the MRI scan.

So back to more Watchful Waiting.

This also helps me to make a decision on another route forward.

Through a friend of mine who is a doctor, one of her patients had prostate issues and went down to the California where they are doing a trial treatment.

The established treatment for Prostate Cancer is to remove and/or destroy the Prostate (heat, freeze or radiate).

This test treatment being done down in the states is where they actually use an MRI at the same time they use pinpointed Infrared thermal unit to blast the cancer that they can see in the MRI scan. In this way they only destroy the cancer cells, not the whole Prostate, and thus also not any surrounding tissue or nerves (which is the cause of so many complications related to Prostate treatment – sexual and urinary issues).

I was prepared to go down and explore this alternative. But now that the MRI is not showing anything distinctive, this is not an option.

So, hopefully whatever cancer was found in my biopsy is not growing, and will continue to not grow (Crossing my fingers).

I am back for a checkup at the Calgary Prostate Clinic in January, and will probably be doing another biopsy at that time.
