Do The Work

Do the Work – Spiritually

I think I have always done it… not knowing I did it.

I have never been one to push ideas, thoughts, feelings away.

Hey, I’m an overthinker to the extreme!!!

So I have done… at least… some work…

Mostly independently, but at times with others, coaches, healers, helpers, counseling.

And it is something that needs to be done, to some degree by all of us. We all are growing, healing, learning, changing.
And in order to do that… to go beyond where we are now, some work must be done.

Lately I have been learning to Do The Work at a conscious level.

It will increase the rate of growth, healing or learning…..

But what does that ‘WORK’ look like?
How does one do that work to move forward.

To me it starts with awareness. Knowing that it us within us, not external.
Taking responsibility.
Not blaming outside forces, our friends, lovers, work, life circumstances, etc.
That is the start of doing the work.

From there, I would say the next step is self-reflection.
This is the ‘Overthinking’ part.

Ok, Ok…. you don’t have to overthing. But you do need to think about, also feel it, let it work with you.
I have a theory, that the heart (feelings) and the head (thinking) need to both work at an issue… until you can allow it deeper into your soul/spirit.
At that point your subconscious blends with your soul/spirit to accept it and allow you to move forward.
My thoughts.

Other ways to do the work that are also part of it….

Reading, listening, meditating, nature, counseling, natural medicines, sharing with friends, etc.

I would also say that whatever puts your mind and body at ease, can help with doing the work.
As long as you pair the two together.
So once you have awareness, and some thoughts and feelings on an idea or issue or problem.
Then put that inside, feel it, think about it.. then go and do your activity… let it sit below the surface, but still aware.

So if you are a runner, you do art, you sing, you dance, your swim, you hike, your ski, you ride a bike…. go do it…
But include the work as part of it.

You don’t have to include it all the time, but at times, this can allow the mind and heart to touch on the issue while you are in a happy place.
And this can help you move forward.

When you feel ready…
So.. how do you know when you are ready….
Most of the time you will simply know.
But at other times, this is where you may need some outside help, a counselor, coach, spiritual advisor, good friend, etc.

Then, it’s time to set some new intentions around the issue.
A way to move forward to a happier time.

It is not about forget, closing off the issue, ignoring it.
But it is about new habits, new thoughts, new feelings.
Where you want to end up, that new intention.
That must be where you want to be.

After that, it is time for actual physical change.
New habits, new routines, changing up your daily rituals.
Whatever aligns with you, and with your new intention, your new path to happiness.

At this stage, it often helps to bring in friends, and other people to help.
Take a course, a class, join a new group or community.
Having the right people around you while you are changing will help to keep the change with you.

And then part of that is speaking your truth.
Living it is not enough, it is time to speak out.
Put out positive vibes in whatever way works for you.
That could be writing, talking, singing, social media, presentations or simply sharing with friends and family.
But talk and discuss where you are going and why…. this is critically important.

And keep up with those new people, your new tribe.
You don’t have to leave your old tribe necessarily, unless they are having a negative influence on you.
But the new tribe will keep you energized, positive and on track.
As will sharing your new happiness, sharing your new life.

So get out there and Do The Work!!
